Support for families caring for children who are medically dependent and to encourage
de-institutionalization of children in nursing homes. This is Medicaid home and community-based waiver

MRLA (Mental Retardation Local Authority)
This is a community oriented service system for persons with mental retardation and related disabilities.
Services, if an individual qualifies, are comprehensive and include things like supported employment,
respite services, day habitation, speech therapy and living arrangements. The waiting time for this
program and its services is approximately seven years so it is important to sign up immediately to be
placed on the waiting list.

Spindletop Center
Spindletop Center is a community mental and mental retardation center located in Southeast Texas. It
provides a variety of behavioral health care services to people with mental illness, mental retardation,
developmental delays and chemical dependency. Currently there are 43 community mental health
centers in Texas. The purpose is to provide services to people with mental disabilities in an effort to
