Dr. Cooky will discuss different forms of medications that are being used to help children with Autism.  She will explain the medication type and what the effects and side effects are.

FBC Nederland is hosting a Parents Night Out for ASSET.  You drop your children off in a safe environment and have time for yourself or to run those errands that never seem to get done!

The cost for the first child is $5.25 and each additional child (up to four) $2.25

A meal will not be served but you are welcome to bring food for the child to eat at the church.

Parents will need to fill out a childcare form.  You can find this form under 'downloads'.

ASSET is selling tickets for a chance to win 1 of 6 Family season passes for Moody Gardens.  If you would like to help us raise some money for the chapter please contact us to get some tickets.  If you would rather just make a donation for a chance to win we would love to put your name into the drawing.  ASSET has already started passing out tickets to many members.  We are asking that what ever tickets are sold be turned in before the meeting on September 9, 2008.  At the meeting on September 9 we will draw for 3 winners.  Tickets will still be able to be sold during September.  Then all tickets will be due on October 14, 2008.  During the dinner with ASA we will combine all tickets sold from August until October and pull the names for the last three season passes.  Contact numbers for tickets are listed below.

ASSET is pleased to announce that we will send 2 people to each training offered by Region 5ESC that are listed below. The process for this will be: send us a short email with all your contact information, please include if you are a parent or professional and how the information you learn will be used to help children with Autism.  Each person chosen to receive funding to attend these workshops will be required to submit to ASSET a written report on what was learned.  Each person chosen to receive funding to attend these workshops must agree if they are unable to attend, for any reason, they will be required to pay ASSET back for any money ASSET has paid out.

Deadline for Autism 101 is August 28, 2008 (Training is on 09/15/2008)
Deadline for Autism Supplement is September 11,2008 (Training is on 09/22/2008)
Deadline for Applied Behavior Analysis is October 16, 2008 (Training is 10/28/08 - 10/30/08)

ASSET has started a bowling league at Megaplay USA, in Port Arthur.

We will meet the Saturday after each monthly meeting.

We start bowling at 11:00 a.m. the cost is $7.00 per child. We will bowl two games. A drink and a snack is included.

Our next game is Saturday September 13, 2008. We will bowl once a month and will end in November with a party for all the kids who joined in.

On October 14, 2008 at the First Baptist Church in Nederland ASSET will have their monthly meeting as scheduled.  Our speaker for this meeting will be Jeff Sell who works for the National Autism Society of America. Jeff Sell will speak about "A Dads view of Autism".

We will also serve dinner this night with Spaghetti on the menu.  There are several ways to be included in this event;
-Host a table (8 people per table at $10.00 a seat)
-Buy a ticket ($10.00 paid in advance will reserve you a seat)
-Ask your company to sponsor a table
-Purchase a ticket for someone who may be able to afford to attend
-Donate a door prize
-Pass the word to other Families
The event will be in the great room at the church starting at 5:30 and over at 8:00.  The great room only holds about 30 tables, so get your name down quick.  Once the tables/seats are spoken for there will be no more spaces available.  For more information visit our website at www.assetx.org or email -email-.

ASSET has been donated free Astros tickets for Monday, September 8, 2008 and Thursday, September 11, 2008 at 7:00 pm at Minutes Maid Park in Houston.  The tickets will be given out on a first come first serve basis.  You will just have to pick the tickets up from me in Groves..  If you would like to attend either one of these games email Denise Lindsey at -email-.
